About World Affairs Council - Pittsburgh
The World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of key global issues throughout Western Pennsylvania in an effort to increase the region’s global competence so that it can better compete and collaborate in the global environment of the 21st century. Established in 1931, the Council is committed to working across generations to help people throughout the region learn about developments around the world as they unfold—and to help them understand the impact of such developments to this region. The Council has a special focus on secondary schools, and works to give students and teachers a more nuanced understanding of global issues. The Council’s award-winning Global Education Initiative prepares students throughout the region to succeed in an interdependent world, and provides educators with content to develop curricula on a range of contemporary global issues. Under the auspices of itsGlobal Engagement and Leadership events and activities, the Council strives to educate and inform opinion leaders, decision-makers, professionals, and the community at large about pressing economic, political, and social developments around the world—and their relevance to our region.
