About South Dallas Cultural Center
The South Dallas Cultural Center is a part of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. Its youth program serves a low income, primarily African American population. The cultural center is 22 years old and has served South Dallas youth for 20 of those years. The program focuses on teaching young people African American history using the arts as the vehicle to self-discovery. Children ages 3 through 18 regularly attend the various educational programs. A strong parental component makes this program unique in that parents receive training in how to use the arts to stimulate intellectual curiosity in their children.
