About Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School
About Pope John Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School opened in the fall of 1967, with the 2015-2016 school year representing the 49th year of Pope John's existence. Mrs. Betty Getzfred serves as Pope John's Administrator, and Pope John is fully accredited by the State of Nebraska. Seventy-one students are currently enrolled in grades 7-12. Pope John and Elgin Public Schools share their sports programs and are known collectively as the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack participates in the Niobrara Valley Conference. Six parishes make up the Pope John Community. They are St. John the Baptist Parish in Petersburg, St. Bonaventure Parish in Raeville, St. Boniface Parish in Elgin, St. Francis Parish in Neligh, St. Theresa's Parish in Clearwater, and St. John's Parish in rural Clearwater. Mission Statement "We are a Christian educational community fostering the spiritual and academic growth of our students, preparing them to live a moral, faith-filled life based on Catholic values." Pope John Philosophy Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School believes in providing quality education in a Christian setting. The educational program is geared to develop a life of ever deepening personal relationship with God. This involves living with others in a Christian way, developing the skills necessary for daily living, and instilling in students, attitudes of concern for their fellow human beings. Each person is an individual. An individual has the right to self-respect, personal dignity, and growth. At Pope John a student is accepted with his strengths and weaknesses. The school strives to create a climate in which students multiply their strengths. Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School is a community of learners. It is a community in which students, faculty, parents and patrons share their talents, ideas and experiences for individual growth. Responsibility and accountability are obligations of each member of the Pope John Community.
