About Gingers Fund
The Ginger’s Fund program was established in honor of a dog we named Ginger. Ginger was seized by the Lexington Police Department (NC) after she was found inside a home where 2 Rottweilers were found chained and starved to death outside. Ginger was not far behind their fate but after months of rehabilitation she was back on her feet and adopted into a wonderful home. Ginger's Fund was created to aid the victims of cruelty and neglect. Prior to “Ginger’s Fund” animals seized in cruelty/neglect cases were often euthanized due to the medical cost involved and lack of room at the shelter. Without a detailed medical report of the animal victims, the people responsible for the animals conditions often where not being held accountable for their actions. The Lexington Police Department wanted to see this change so they asked for help and “Ginger’s Fund” began to emerge. Ginger's Fund was created at the beginning of 2012. Since its creation, Ginger's Fund has assisted in 38 animal cruelty investigations and has helped 114 animals. These numbers are constantly going up and we are always fighting the battle against animal cruelty. Our goal is to help the animals in need, get them healthy, spayed/neutered, and placed into loving homes or with reputable rescue groups. The animals are the victims in these cases, we are dedicated to making sure their former owners are prosecuted. The Ginger's Fund animals go into wonderful homes where they will never have to worry about being hungry, beaten, thirsty, or out in the elements without protection ever again. Ginger's Fund FOS-DCNC also believes that public education on proper animal care is essential. We teach a bi-monthly Responsible Pet Care class that animal offenders are court ordered to take. Violations range from leash laws violations, animals running at large, rabies citations to cruelty cases. We teach basic pet care and have guest speakers to go over the local & state animal welfare laws, importance of spay/neuter, and also to educate the offenders on programs available to them in case they need help with their pets in the future.
