About BRASS House
Mission “The B.R.A.S.S House Inc. strengthens families and encourages parents to become self-sufficient.” The B.R.A.S.S. House, Inc.,a 501(c)3 organization, will provide structured supportive housing for homeless mothers (ages 18-30) and their children (prenatal to 5 years of age) while offering case management, educational and supportive services. The purpose is to provide the necessary linkage to programs, resources, and supportive services that will assist parents in gaining the employment, educational, and life skills that will empower them to become independent and productive individuals. The supportive housing program will provide the families with a safe environment to address the issues that led to their homelessness; and the support and encouragement needed to achieve their goals of economic and social independence (self-sufficiency). The families will be referred by emergency shelters, treatment programs, other agencies, and/or self-referred with documentation proving homelessness. Once accepted, families will be allowed to reside in the supportive housing program for to 24 months and they must have intentions of obtaining affordable housing, which they are able to maintain. With staff assistance, each resident will be required to develop a family plan that includes education, employment, and parenting objectives for themselves and their children. Family plans will be assessed quarterly using the S.M.A.R.T goal system (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely). Families will have to adhere to program guidelines including, but not limited to paying portion of rent decided by income standards. Each head of household will be mandated to secure and maintain income for entire family, a high school diploma, a parenting certificate, and job readiness skills. Prior to being successfully discharged from the program, each resident will meet with the discharge coordinator to implement a 6-month exit strategy.
