Mexico Cruise Deals

Mexico is a vibrant cruise destination with two major options for your tour, and there are several ports of call to explore on both eastern and western cruise itineraries.

What Is Mexico Like?

Mexico is close enough to offer a convenient cruising option for American travelers, yet far enough to feel like a world all its own. Try a Mexican Riviera cruise for a picturesque tour of the west coast, including stops like Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. Head west and explore the Caribbean with an itinerary that blends excursions to the Mayan ruins of Mexico with stops in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. Wherever you go, you'll find that Mexico has a distinctive cultural flavor with highlights like lively mariachi bands and authentic Mexican food bursting with spices. Mexico's natural delights are equally charming. Enjoy kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and whale watching on the water. Head into a port of call and go for a camel ride in the desert or play a championship golf course. Mexican cruises have a little of everything.

Best Time of Year for Cruises to Mexico

Mexico enjoys warm weather year-round, but peak cruising time south of the border is between September and May. Despite its popularity, this is a surprisingly affordable time to cruise to Mexico. Plan your vacation during November to catch some of the local celebrations for Dia de Muertos. Whale watching is at its peak from November through March. From June through November, your cruising options are more limited. Weather is hot and rainy during this time, but you can catch highlights like the Lenten Carnaval a week before Ash Wednesday.

Popular Stopover Places for Cruise Lines

Cabo San Lucas is one of the most popular ports of call in Mexico, thanks to its charming blend of desert, mountains, and seascape. Golf, Marlin fishing, and parasailing are particularly popular here. Puerto Vallarta is well-loved for its nightlife and dining. Stroll the cobblestone streets and take in the beautiful sculptures along the bay as you explore this popular stop. Ensenada is a prime port for deep-sea fishing and local winery tours. Take a western Mexican cruise and you're likely to stop in Cozumel for a tour of Mayan ruins and Chankanaab National Park. Costa Maya, accessible through the quiet fishing village of Mahahual, is a western stop that's popular for its jeep tours and ATV adventures that can transport you to Mayan ruins like Chacchoben and Kohunlich.
