Cruise Deals

Finding a good deal on a cruise can be the key to truly enjoying your maritime getaway.

Book Early

It used to be that the closer the time came to a cruise's date of departure, the more desperate cruise lines became to fill cabins, so they would offer amazing discounts. That is no longer the case. Some major cruise lines have even instituted a policy whereby they do not give any discounts at all if you book within 30 days of your departure date.

Research the prices for various cruises, and if you find a deal you like, reserve your room right away. Don't wait in the hope that prices will fall later.

Choose a Less Popular Destination

The most popular cruise destinations change from year to year. One year, Alaska might be a hot spot, while the Caribbean might be the place to go during another year. Try to find out which cruise destinations are less popular; these may be more affordable. However, you also have to consider the price of getting to your port of embarkation. If you have to spend a lot of money to get to Europe to go on a discounted cruise, you might be better off financially if you take a slightly more expensive cruise that begins closer to home.

Often, the ships that take less popular routes are older ships. This doesn't mean that the ships have been neglected in any way, but they may be lacking the latest and greatest technology and amenities. However, they can still offer an exciting cruise experience.

Look for Coupons and Promotional Deals

Peruse coupon and travel websites in search of special rates on cruises. You may find an unadvertised discount that will save you hundreds of dollars or furnish you with unexpected bonuses, like an extra land excursion or free drinks.

Sometimes, travel websites will have package deals wherein if you book a cruise, you get other travel perks for free.

Check Budget Cruise Lines First

Some cruise lines offer consistently lower rates than their more luxurious counterparts. For example, Carnival Cruises are often affordable. Things can get a little noisy on board because this cruise line caters to families with kids, but if you have children yourself, you'll have no reason to complain.

Norwegian Cruise Line also has a reputation for low prices. The rooms may not be posh, but you'll be so busy enjoying the cruise, the ports of call, and the ship's many amenities that you won't notice your simple studio cabin.
