David Hyde Pierce
David Hyde Pierce lost his maternal grandfather and his father to Alzheimer's disease. Now the actor is center stage in the debut of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the mind-robbing condition.
The Alzheimer's Association, along with Pierce, recently kicked off the first large-scale campaign to educate the public about the disease that now affects 5 million Americans and threatens to triple by 2030.
"We are at a crisis point," said Pierce. "We are at a pinnacle of hope. But we have to raise awareness of the condition. The research that needs to be done takes money."
"We have to open people's minds to understanding Alzheimer's. They have to use their own voice on behalf of patients who have lost theirs; and they have to help move the cause forward."
