Charity Begins at Home is an organization that raises funds and directly allocates these funds to charitable agencies in the tri-state area. The organization was founded in 1978 primarily by the money from concerts through the efforts of Billy Joel.
For the past several years, Charity Begins at Home has helped fund needy non-profits ranging from child abuse organizations to cystic fibrosis organizations to animal welfare groups.
Mr. Joel has continued to be exceptionally generous in ensuring that Charity Begins at Home continues to serve and support needy agencies. In 2007, over $400,000 was disbursed to 80 non-profit agencies.
On October 27th, 2008, Billy Joel had a concert in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Charity Begins at Home; the event raised over $290,000 dollars!
