Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas isn’t just a rock star with three Grammy Awards and a smooth voice. He’s also a champion for the world’s needy, whether it is animals or the homeless. Together with his wife Marisol, he wants to bring music and philanthropy together to make a difference. That’s why he founded the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, which works hand-in-hand with charities in and around America 's big cities.
“Life in the city can be so fast that those in need are often passed by,” Thomas said. “People who are destitute or homeless and get lost in the system, animals that have been abandoned or abused -- these are universal problems that Sidewalk Angels encourages people to address locally.”
One of his latest projects is supporting Pets Alive and the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, helping homeless animals by giving them the special care they so urgently need. When supporters donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary online, they receive a free download of Rob Thomas’ new hit single, “When the Heartache Ends.”
He recently took the time to visit Derby Road , where the Sanctuary is located. "This is like Disneyland for them," he said as he surveyed the new outdoor homes for the dogs yesterday. "This is just the beginning."
