The Super Bowl is uniquely American, and enjoyed by a world wide audience. It is everything that holidays are made of. It is time to recognize this single day in early February as a national holiday, as enacted by Congress.
While any day can be declared a holiday, it takes an act of congress to make a day an official, nationally recognized holiday. Due to the the spectacular nature of the Super Bowl, and the love for American football, this day should be designated as a holiday in order to truly celebrate all things associated with Super Bowl.
Holiday status will offer additional leeway for employees who wish to travel and be with family, leaving over the weekend, either early on Friday or by taking the following Monday off from work. Such a declaration will offer more opportunity to American retailers as well as travel specialists.
The Petition
To the Members of the Congress of the United States of America:
American football has reached an unparalleled popularity in the United States, and it has spilled into the realm of international sport. For citizens of the United States, we are well aware of the celebration associated with the Super Bowl. What was once an enjoyable viewing of a championship football game, has become a celebration enjoyed by individuals who are not even fans of the game of football.
Because of the unique nature of the celebration surrounding this singular sporting event, it is requested that Super Bowl Sunday become recognized as Super Sunday, an official holiday, recognized on the Federal Calendar of the United States of America. Through such a decree, there are great benefits that may be enjoyed by business owners, as well as employees.
With holidays, individuals, couples and families enjoy travel. Travel spurs economic growth in many industries. It would seem that there is no down side to declaring the Super Bowl a national holiday--it is something we already celebrate, enjoy celebrating and through application of the holiday status, it will allow us to celebrate our patriotism as part of an event that no other country in the world will ever host.
With great joy we offer this petition.
Sincerely,
Your Constituents
