Reality television depicts nothing that even vaguely resembles reality. It contains made up events that would never occur in the real world; not to mention that it uses editing techniques to create situations that never even happened during filming.
Reality TV is warping the way that television viewers see the world. Networks obviously know this. That’s why reality TV shows do not depict reality.
Instead of watching more of this rubbish, let’s band together and demand higher quality from television networks. No more crumby reality TV! We’re not asking for Masterpiece Theatre on every channel. We just want some shows that stimulate our imaginations and give us real entertainment.
Let television executives know that you refuse to continue drooling on yourself every night while you waste away in front of the tube. If they want to make money, then they’ll need better content that makes us want to watch because it stimulates us, not because we’ve nothing better to do.
The Petition
Television Networks,
For the love of God, no more reality TV shows.
We’re sick of hearing people sing songs that they didn’t write. We’re tired of watching made-up scenarios that, in all honesty, have absolutely nothing to do with reality.
Come on, The Real World was pretty awesome for a while, but we’ve grown increasingly tired of the attention starved people that you parade in front of us every week as if they are actual celebrities.
Seriously, a lot of these people have real mental health issues. You shouldn’t be profiting from their instability. If you want to make the world a better place, then pay for their counseling instead of sticking them on a stage for audiences to gawk at.
We don’t care about the latest restaurant fads; we couldn’t possible have any interest in what your so-called experts say we should do to decorate our homes.
We’re OK with you helping obese people lose weight. Yeah, you’re exploiting them, but a lot of them come out better than they were at the beginning of the show. We’ll give you that one.
That’s why we demand that you start offering real content with plot lines and dialogue and made up characters. A few more documentaries would be nice too.
Thanks so much,
Bored TV Viewers
