Description
Youth Science Institute (YSI) inspires enthusiasm for science and a love of learning. An independent nonprofit and a leader in nature-based science education, YSI engages 30,000 pre-school to high school students in science each year –over 1 million children have experienced YSI programs over the 53 year history.
YSI focuses on hands-on learning of life/physical/social sciences, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology and astronomy. Programs take place at three Science & Nature Centers in Vasona, Sanborn and Alum Rock parks, and in schools and community events. Centers feature live mammals, birds, insects, amphibians and reptiles.
YSI helps develop the critical thinking skills necessary for a child’s academic success - ultimately impacting his/her opportunity for economic success. Children gain an understanding and appreciation of the interrelationships between themselves and their world - inspiring many to be active in their community and help the health of the planet.
