The Youth and Family Academy (YAFA) is an established charter shool in its 10th year of operation. YAFA is a component of the Pueblo Youth Service Bureau, a private non-profit organization that has been servicing youth since 1972. The student population at YAFA has constantly consisted of a cross section of students, from all areas of the city, which includes the rural areas of Pueblo County. YAFA is a school servicing grades 7 – 12 which has always operated with a specialized mission to serve high needs at-risk students. Students are primarily of Hispanic ethnicity. These students have come to our school anywhere from three to eight grade levels below appropriate academic levels. Many of these students have been transferred to every school in the school district before coming into ours, and others are dropouts who were recovered by us to reenter school. In addition, the students attending YAFA are mobile and have a transient nature.
