Description
The West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) is a Governor appointed council mandated by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1992. The WVSILC incorporated as a non-profit corporation in May, 1996 due to the Federal requirement that it not be a part of any state agency. The SILC’s mission is to ensure persons with disabilities have access to community-based resources that promote personal choice and facilitate the achievement of their independent living goals. The SILC is jointly responsible with the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services for developing, implementing, and monitoring the State Plan for Independent Living, for the provision of independent living services to individuals with disabilities.
