WRUV is a not-for-profit community radio station based out of the University of Vermont. It began in 1954 and is operated entirely by students and volunteers from the community.
Its main goals are as follows:
- to provide individuals with the technical knowledge and managerial experience involved in radio broadcasting;
- to offer unique, alternative programing that cannot be heard on any other station or seen on major video outlets in the same area;
- to expose its listening audience to many different types of music, news and educational programming; and
- to meet its designation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as an educational non-profit radio station.
WRUV also aims to do community outreach and work with other community organizations as much as possible.
