Mission Statement
Parrots are the most endangered family of birds in the world. The World Parrot Trust (WPT) funds parrot related conservation programs and runs research and fieldwork projects of our own to learn about the biology of endangered parrots, assist their reproduction and survival, and mitigate or reduce other threats due to habitat loss, trapping, and other pressures.
WPT major operating programs include: field conservation projects on numerous parrot species to increase the knowledge of their basic biology; educational initiatives in both parrot range countries and abroad to increase awareness of the plight of parrots and plans for action; parrot welfare projects focusing on both the welfare of birds already in captivity and also on the elimination of the international trade in wild parrots (and other birds), which leads to significant mortality, damage to wild populations and suffering of individual birds.
