Description
Founded in 1968, the World Order Models Project (WOMP), a global network of concerned scholars, public intellectuals and policymakers have engaged in research, discussion, and policy initiatives aimed at promoting a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. In 1990, WOMP received the UNESCO Peace Education Prize.
For the past 7 years, WOMP members have been most active in its Global Action to Prevent War (GAPW) program that promotes a series of practical measures for reducing global levels of conflict and for removing the institutional and ideological impediments to ending armed conflict and human rights violations.
GAPW grounds the goal of conflict prevention in specific phases and integrates action towards successive advances in early warning, prevention of armed conflict, nonviolent conflict resolution, peacekeeping and peacemaking, confidence-building measures, disarmament, and the implementation of criminal law regarding genocide and crimes against humanity.
