Non-profit organization that supports Latino immigrant workers seeking better working and living conditions. Through education and community organizing combined with legal support, the Workplace Project has fought anti-immigrant hate groups, established day labor hiring sites and worker cooperatives, and recuperated hundreds of thousands of dollars for workers owed unpaid wages and overtime. Legislative victories include passing the Unpaid Wages Prohibition Act, giving New York State the strongest penalties in the country for unscrupulous employers, and the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, which recently passed in Nassau County.
