30 years ago, Women Aware, Inc. was founded on the belief that every human being has the right to live free from violence and the fear of violence. Our first shelter was a small, rented facility that held only three families. We grew rapidly, and within one year we opened our first building with room for up to eight families. We incorporated in 1984 and have steadily expanded our services. At present Women Aware serves up to ten families in a nine bedroom, twenty-one bed facility. In addition, we now also provide a comprehensive continuum of care that improves the health and well being of the families who look to us for safety, strength and hope, and in the process, we are changing lives.
