Description

Westmoreland Intermediate Unit (WIU) Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to enhance the educational experience for students and educators throughout Westmoreland County, PA. Founded in 2004, the organization's current focus is the estimated 11,000 students with special needs throughout our county. Our funding goes to projects such as annual mini-grants for innovative programs in special education classrooms; recreational facilities for special needs students; assistive equipment; equine therapy for 3-5 year olds with Autism; music therapy for students with disabilities; and homeless students. Headquartered in Greensburg PA, WIU Foundation services 17 public school districts and the 200+ students of a school for special education operated by the local intermediate unit. The Foundation is operated by a volunteer board of directors, and all fundraising is by volunteers.
