Description
We are a magnet school serving grades 6-8! Our magnet theme is “Youth Voice through Youth Media.” Magnet schools are public schools with specialized curricula offering attractive choices to many students, thereby increasing the diversity of the student population. Specific benefits in Magnet Schools include: improved academic achievement; diverse student enrollments; innovative curriculum; specialized teaching staff; higher attendance rates, graduation rates, and lower drop-out rates. Magnet schools boast more parental and community involvement, more personalization through theme-based education, and specialized programs, providing a sense of a safer environment for learning. Teachers are “highly qualified” through specific theme-based training and professional development.
Our motto; Opere Omnuim, means “With the work of All.” Therefore, our vision impacts our entire school, general education population, special education population, ELL students and parents, school safety, neighborhood bodegas, cafeteria personnel, police precinct, local politicians, superintendent and all of those who are part of our community.
The West Prep Academy community is united in the belief that educational excellence is our main goal. We are dedicated to fostering literacy and developing English-Language Arts and Mathematical skills to enable all students to become life-long learners and problem solvers.
