Only woods of it's size and quality in the U.S. National Natural Landmark and State Nature Preserve but receives no money from the state or federal government. Managed by a non profit through a contract with the City of Evansville. Nature Center provides environmental educaiton for over 12,000 children and adults each year. Over 6 miles of trails and typical Indiana wildlife inside the city limits of a metropolis. Rare are places where opportunities like this exist for inner city children to experience the outdoors. Rich with cultural and natural history the facility boasts remnants of the Wabash Erie Canal, old railroad beds, over 200 acres, pond, prairie, old growth woods, and nature center complete with wildlife viewing area (one way glass), gift shop, and interactive displays.
