Description
Formed in 1983, the Washington Revels is a unique and acclaimed community theater organization, offering staged performances and outreach programs for adults and children alike.
Our mission and objectives exist on several levels. At its most basic, they are to promote the understanding and appreciation of traditional folk music, dance and rituals from around the world. Their reach is much deeper, however: they seek to foster Celebration, Community and Connection (connection of people and communities with each other, and of people with the Earth and nature). Exploring similar themes through the prisms of different cultures, Revels celebrations seek to underscore the world’s common humanity, connecting performers and audiences in a community that stretches across national, religious and ethnic boundaries and divisions and back into the ages of time.
