WalkBoston is the first and foremost pedestrian advocacy group in the country. Since 1990 we have promoted walking for transportation, health and recreation through education, advocacy and walking programs. Our mission is to create and preserve safe walking environments that build vital communities. WalkBoston includes members from 64 cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts, and thirteen of Boston's neighborhoods. Our key efforts include Safe Routes to Schools programs to encourage children to walk to school, work with neighborhoods to assess and then improve walking conditions, participaction in state and local policy, legislation and regulatory efforts to enhance pedestrian conditions, and review of project designs to insure that they are walker-friendly.
