Description
Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundation is in Julian, CA in the mountains east of San Diego. In 20 years, the Foundation has facilitated the preservation of 17,000 acres on Volcan Mountain and is working on another 1,650-acre purchase. Volcan Mountain has incredible biodiversity and since 2003 has been a magnet for wildlife displaced by wildfires. Volcan is the source of headwaters for the San Dieguito and San Luis Rey Rivers as well as feeder streams that create the San Diego River. Public hiking is allowed on the Five Oaks Trail, managed by San Diego County Parks and Recreation. No dogs, bikes, horses. The Foundation raises funds for acquisition, stewardship of the land and education programs. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
