Description
The Vision for Independence Center is in the process of being started in Yakima, Washington. We hope to receive enough grant money and donations within the next months to rent office space by the end of this year. The Center will be a "one-stop-center" for people experiencing vision loss." It will have a low vision clinic, where people will be evaluated by eye care professionals trained in Low Vision for optical and electronic magnification devices as well as appropriate lighting, sun and glare shields. Support groups, computer training with adaptive technology and recreational activities will also be offered. We also plan to house a library with descriptive videos at the center. Furthermore the center will provide information on services for people, who are visually impaired, which the center itself is not going to be able to provide itself. Finally, the center will also have a store where people can buy magnifiers and large print and talking devices.
