Description
Founded in 1993, the Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC) is the nation’s oldest Free Clinic Association. We are a private, nonprofit membership organization that provides training and technical assistance, research, resource development and advocacy to Free Clinics throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VAFC represents and supports Virginia’s network of 59 Free Clinics, which is one of Virginia’s largest providers of health care to the uninsured and underinsured. Last year we served more than 83,000 people, which was a 15% increase over the previous year. We were able to provide:
~169,288 general medical visits and 61,016 specialty medical visits worth $31.3 million
~45,178 dental visits worth $10.8 million
~17,575 mental health/counseling visits worth $1.4 million
~711,542 prescription medications worth $68.6 million
Virginia hospitals and lab companies donated $58.6 million in in-kind services to free clinic patients.
