About Valley Oak Childrens Services
Valley Oak Children's Services (VOCS) is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1980 as the key resource and referral agency serving Butte community members. Our mission is to support, empower and advocate for children, families and child care providers through education, information and quality child care services. VOCS is a community-based organization, governed by a Board of Directors that honors the diversity of all families and promotes strength-based child development services for families. VOCS strives to reach all families with young children in the county, with special regard for ethnic minorities, low income and special needs families. Over the past 30 years we have developed successful strategies to reach the diverse population of Butte County. This is achieved by using a variety of outreach programs, workshops, a mobile resource and referral van and employing bi-lingual and bi-cultural staff, to overcome some barriers families may have in accessing our services. Although our office is located in Chico, staff travels throughout the county to ensure families have access to services they need. help children with special needs increase their access to quality child care; a Child Care Initiative Project designed to recruit and train family child care providers and provide outreach and training to licensed exempt providers in Butte County; Parent Voices a parent led advocacy group who develop skills to influence state and local policy affecting children and families. VOCS has received funding from First 5 Butte County for CARES (Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Educational Standards for child care providers), Get Ready!, the Quality Counts Program and Incredible Years School Readiness Program in Oroville. Originally funded by a grant from the Department of Education and Social Services for CalWorks children and families, VOCS' Behavioral Health Program was created to meet the needs of the community. For the past nine years, our Behavioral Health program has worked with children, families and providers to design and conduct behavioral health interventions in child care settings which include: observation, assessment and treatment plans to parents and providers. VOCS has a successful track record working with parents, child care providers and the community. We understand the needs of the communities we serve as well as overcoming barriers to providing high-quality services. VOCS has established relationships with parents and providers. Families trust us and know that we understand child development issues. It is only natural that they call us with their questions and concerns when they need assistance with issues related to the children and child care services. VOCS has an existing infrastructure designed to provide subsidized child care services in Butte County which includes computer software to track services provided as well as payments to child care providers and a live-scan machine on site.
