Our mission is to cultivate community and promote sustainable living through education, organic gardening, recycling, and environmental awareness.
The Urban Seeds started in April of 2005 with a handful of volunteers who had little or no gardening experience. In an empty lot, loaned to them by a businessman they began their first garden. It grew beautifully, and peaked the interest of the neighborhood. Soon many were chipping in, and, not only did the garden grow, but so did the community. The Urban Seeds have been building and planting organic gardens since then wherever they can. The Urban Seeds now have over 50 members and volunteers around the city of Evansville. They have planted and maintained gardens within the adopt-a-spot plots, as well as loaned spaces from different residents in the Evansville area.
