Description

The Violence Prevention Program (VPP) prevents violent personal injury among Baltimore City’s most at-risk populations through research into the root causes of violence and development of evidence-based programs targeting the root causes of violence. VPP seeks to serve as a national model in bridging the community, criminal justice and medical systems and in the development and dissemination of proven, effective interventions. The VPP includes two direct service projects including the Violence Intervention Project, and Promoting Healthy Alternatives for Teens (PHAT) Project, an after-school program as well as donor specific research projects.
University of Maryland Medical Systems Foundation Inc. is a 501(c)(3) and fiscal agent for the VPP. The mission of the Foundation is to receive and manage gifts that benefit educational, charitable, or service programs operating within the family of educational, research, and service institutions on the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus.
