Description
USABA provides life-enriching sports opportunities for all Americans who are blind and visually impaired. As a member organization of the U.S. Olympic Committee, we provide athletic opportunities in eleven sports. Those opportunities allow people who are blind and visually impaired to develop independence through competition without restrictions. Like sighted people, they gain self-confidence, leadership skills and learn the value of teamwork. Secondly, part of USABA's mission is to change society's negative stereotypes concerning the abilities of blind persons. Combating these stereotypes is done both by educating the public through various avenues of media and by training athletes to integrate fully as participants into their local community based programming.
