Description

All-volunteer doulas (childbirth assistants) offering care to birthing families free of charge at the UCSD (University of California, San Diego) Medical Center in San Diego.
Our doulas are trained and experienced in all aspects of labor and birth, and commit to staying with a birthing mother non-stop until here baby comes - sometimes 24 hours or more. We serve a population in need: low-income; teens; incarcerated mothers; medically high-risk; and a large ethnic minority (Latina) with limited access to this health care option that has shown to improve birth outcomes for both mother and baby.
Our program has been funded through grants previously and we are now trying to expand our funding base in order not to be dependent on grants.
