Description
At the University of California, Los Angeles, students have a long tradition of being active in working for social change, education and understanding of the greater Los Angeles community. Since 1965, students have initiated and organized programs to bring needed services to communities from San Gabriel Valley to East Los Angeles to Ventura County.
These efforts have been the focus of the Undergraduate Students Association Council Community Service Commission (CSC), which represents over twenty student-run community service projects and over 1,500 students each year, making CSC the largest completely student-run, student-initiated community service organization in the nation. Each year, these students work together to tutor youths and adults, address health needs of ethnic communities, combat poverty and homelessness, and even reach out to incarcerated youth and neglected children.
