Description

Thorpe Family Residence, Inc., a not-for-profit 501 c3 organization, has provided shelter and services to homeless families for more than sixteen years in a section of the Bronx, New York that is one of the poorest in the City and is part of Congressional District #16, ranked as the poorest congressional district in the entire country. Founded by the Dominican sisters of Sparkill, Thorpe Family Residence developed and operates two homeless projects – a 16-unit Tier II Transitional Shelter for homeless mothers and children at 2252 Crotona Avenue (Thorpe I) and a 20-unit permanent supportive housing project for families at 406 East 184th Street (Park Avenue Thorpe). Open to homeless in need without regard to religion or creed, Thorpe Family Residence takes for its primary goal the provision of a continuum of care for those homeless families seeking to develop life skills in preparation for independent living.
