Theatre Jacksonville is the longest continuously producing community theatre in Florida and has been an integral part of the artistic scene in Jacksonville since it’s founding in 1919. Theatre Jacksonville was named Jacksonville’s “Official Theatre” by mayoral proclamation in 1972, a title that has been re-conferred by all succeeding mayors. The American Association of Community Theatres reports that the average life span of an American community theatre is just twenty-five years. As a shining example of enduring success that breaks away from this trend, this year marks Theatre Jacksonville’s eighty-seventh year of continuous play production, firmly establishing it as a nationally ranked leader among America’s community theatres.
