The Ocean Project (TOP) is an international network of aquariums, zoos, museums, and conservation organizations (ZAMs) working to create an understanding among their public of the significance of the ocean and the role each person plays in conserving it for the future. We are an unprecedented initiative that intends to create in people a lasting, measurable awareness of the importance and value of the ocean and believes that the single greatest impediment to healthy marine areas is the public's low level of ocean awareness. Through this collaboration among ZAMs that see over 200 million visitors each year, TOP aims to significantly increase the success of ocean conservation. TOP seeks to complement and build upon the work of existing institutions and organizations. We also collaborate with local, regional, and national nonprofit conservation and environmental organizations to actively involve people in conservation activities in their communities and better connect them to the ocean.
