Description
The Arc of Spokane is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to promote independece, choice and a better life for people with developmental disabilities and their families.
A developmental disability is a lifelong condition that occurs before the age of 18 and involves a physical or intellectual limitation. The most common conditions are mental retardation, Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
It is estimated that 1.5 to 3% of the population has a developmental disability.
The Arc provides advocacy, information, education, resources, emotional support and 14 direct support programs. We are contacted more than 20,000 times each year for assistance. Some contacts are brief and one time only, while others last a lifetime.
