Description
The Talking Book Center is a free library service for those who are unable to use standard print materials due to temporary or permanent: blindness, visual or physical impairment, or reading disability. It serves those with print impairments in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
The Talking Book Center circulates books, magazines, and other materials recorded on cassette in a special format and the players needed to use the materials in order that a patron can "read by listening". A patron registers with TBC, receives the special player on long-term loan, and begins to receive recorded books and magazines. The books, players, catalogs, and other materials in alternate format travel through the mail “postage free”. There are 70,000 book titles available and c40 magazines. The collection is a general purpose recreation reading library with books for children, young adults, and adults. A United Way Agency.
