Description
The SSC, sponsored by Health Hope Network, is a free program that provides support to stroke survivors and their caregivers. Qualified, paid group leaders meet with these survivors for three hours once a week to strengthen their body, mind, and spirit through physical and mental exercise and socialization. Our expenses are not reimbursed by any insurance carriers. Our program includes three components of therapy (physical, cognitive, and emotional). The meetings are held year-round, each week for three hours. The location of each meeting and the group leader stays consistent from week to week allowing the stroke survivor to feel the security of familiarity. Participants do not pay a fee to attend; most participants are elderly and have limited income. The 30 sites in our region are offered through partnerships with local churches, senior centers, and organizations that offer handicapped accessible space at no cost.
