Description

Strategic Human Service is a not-for-profit organization started in 1999 by a group of residents in the North Lawndale community to help our community progress. We saw there was a need to increase the circulation of important information within the community. This includes information on resources, news, events and knowledge that can help to improve the lifestyle of the people in North Lawndale. That quickly evolved into the North Lawndale Community News, now a free weekly newspaper with content related directly to improving life in North Lawndale and neighboring communities.
The newspaper is a catalyst for organization, activism, and education around community issues; offers economic mobility via its training programs; and gives a voice to individuals and groups that have seldom been heard. SHS has conducted training sessions, workshops, and programs for the community in journalism, computer job training, business, marketing, and advertisement.
