SPARK School Park Program works in the Houston/Harris County, Texas area to create neighborhood parks on public school property. Using available public land is a fast and cost effective way to increase park acreage.
Over 200 schools have participated in the SPARK program since it was founded in 1983. Each park is unique, created using input from the school and community. This process ensures a park design that is representative of the surrounding neighborhood. Many of these parks include a public art component.
2008 is the 25th Anniversary of the SPARK School Park Program. SPARK has built parks in nine schools districts in the Houston/Harris County area.
