Description
SCSJ is a public interest law organization providing advocacy services to community based organizations. We have demonstrated that empowering communities to address the issues that most impact them builds long term capacity and lasting structural change. We operate from the premise that the lawyers should not be in charge of social justice campaigns but serve as tools for the community. This "on tap,
not on top" model, allows the communities to control how they address an issue, resulting in more meaningful and enduring changes. Our three largest program areas are: the defense of immigrants unfairly being deported, representing minority communities in significant environmental justice
cases, and seeking to end discriminatory practices that impair minority voting rights.
