Description
SEVCA’s mission is “to enable people to cope with, and reduce the hardships of poverty; create sustainable self-sufficiency; and reduce the causes and move toward the elimination of poverty. SEVCA was created in 1965 as a part of the nationwide ‘War on Poverty’ and chartered as a Community Action Agency (CAA) – the ‘anti-poverty agency’ serving Windham and Windsor Counties. SEVCA has served low-income families and individuals of this area for the past 44 years. To address the complex and constantly changing needs of this population, SEVCA has developed a broad and multi-faceted approach through a wide array of programs, within 5 major divisions, reflecting the comparably wide range of poverty-related needs: Family Services / Emergency Assistance; Head Start ; Micro-Business / Asset Development and Tax Preparation Assistance; “Good Buy” Thrift Stores, Furniture / Clothing Voucher Program, and Textile Recycling; and Weatherization.
