Description
South Side Community Economic Development Center is the charity arm of the South Side Community Federal Credit Union (SSCFCU), a low-income designated, community-
chartered, federally insured financial cooperative serving Chicago’s most undercapitalized and asset
depleted communities and their residents.
SSCFCU is the result of three years of grassroots organizing and the active support of more than 30 non-profit community organizations. Board members are elected annually by the members, on the basis
of “one-person, one-vote.”
SSCFCU is an alternative to predatory practices in public banking and private financial businesses. By providing access to affordable credit and financial services and addressing poverty by providing meaningful asset-building opportunities to very-low and low income people through education,
savings, investment and community development lending.
