Description
South Plaquemines High located in Plaquemines Parish Louisiana. This school was created from schools that were destroyed when Hurricane Katrina devastated the majority of Plaquemines Parish. The consolidated schools are from Port Sulphur, Buras and Boothville-Venice. This school has faced many formidable issues and the children and many administrators still continue to face much uncertainty and stress.
The majority of the children who attend live in small 8X30’ FEMA issued camper trailers. Many of these are in FEMA controlled trailer parks in the Parish. Imagine living with your family in a small camper in a trailer park with 450 other camper trailers in it. You have a tiny hot water heater for all in your family to use to shower. The only washer and dryers available are in a small “wash trailer” located some distance from your camper with only a few washers and dryers to be shared by upwards of 2000 people. And yet you go to school and try to maintain a decent grade point average.
