Description

Created with a vision of a stronger, empowered Somali community in King County, Somali Community Services Coalition (SCSC) was formed in 1995, and incorporated as 501(C)3 in 1998. The mission of SCSC is to enhance and improve the well-being and quality of life of Somali families and individuals, and to preserve the cultural heritage of the Somali community throughout King County.
Many Somalis arrived in the United States following the civil war in Somalia in 1991 as refugees. Of those that arrived, the majority had no previous education and could not read or write in their native language. SCSC is the only Somali community-based agency in the Tukwila / SeaTac area providing culturally and linguistically-appropriate social services to the East African community. Our services include after-school tutoring for K-12 students, a youth summer enrichment program, social and immigration assistance or referrals, interpretation, and advocacy.
