Description
The Skirball Cultural Center explores the connections between 4,000 years of Jewish heritage and the vitality of American democratic ideals. Skirball presents the experience of the Jewish people, their traditions, aspirations, and values as a metaphor for all immigrant groups that journey to America. The goal is to communicate the importance of embracing diversity, and to celebrate and respect cultural commonalities as well as differences.
Skirball achieves its mission through the display and interpretation of its world-class museum collection; nationally recognized School Outreach Programs; publications and scholarship; and the development, production, and presentation of over 250 public programs each year that explore literary, visual, and performing arts from around the world. Since opening in 1996, Skirball has welcomed nearly 5 million visitors from throughout the world, including 500,000 local students and their teachers who participated in School Outreach Programs.
