Description
Sigma Delta Tau (SDT), a National Sorority for college women, was founded at Cornell University on March 25, 1917. SDT is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) and has over 40,000 alumnae from over ninety college campuses across the USA and Canada.
"It shall be the purpose of this fraternal organization to form a close social and fraternal union of those of similar ideals and to foster, maintain and instill such ideals in the hearts of its members as will result in actions worthy of the highest precepts of true womanhood, democracy and humanity."
Since 1963 the SDT Foundation has given $400,000 in scholarships, interest-free educational loans and educational and leadership development grants. Approximately fifteen scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate and graduate students. Grants are also given to the National Sorority for educational and leadership programs. The Foundation sponsors participation in NPC Regional Meetings and Leadership Seminars.
