SHIELDS for Families, Inc. is a private, non-profit, community-based agency and the largest provider of family services in South Los Angeles, particularly the communities of Compton and Watts. We are dedicated to developing, delivering and evaluating culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for families. Our primary goals are to: 1) promote family reunification and support families remaining intact in the community 2) strengthen families through the provision of comprehensive and collaborative services 3) improve the general well being of families through comprehensive health programs and preventive social services and 4) promote self sufficiency and economic independence. SHIELDS is dedicated to believing that families can overcome whatever challenges they are facing while building a foundation of hope through acquiring new skills and support needed to accomplish their goals as they are becoming nurturing parents and productive members of society.
